OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking a candidate who will manage, implement and maintain Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001 (2007), and coordinate Risk Minimisation Projects and Risk Assessment Programmes.

The successful candidate will manage their portfolio in compliance with the requirements as laid out in the Integrated Management System. They will also be responsible for marketing and promoting SHEQ to stakeholders and providing support line management in their implementation of risk management standards in the utilisation of the SAP R3 – SHEQ module.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Risk Systems Management and Maintenance:

  • Maintain extensive technical and semi-technical data files in respect of various SHEQ disciplines.
  • Facilitate the implementation and interpretation of system requirements by Line Managers.
  • Advising management on the customisation of standards.
  • Provide Risk services in inspection and reporting on emergency equipment.
  • Manage data systems.

Supervision:

  • Management functions such as supervision, leave approval, appraisals, task assignments and disciplinary procedures.

Financial:

  • Prepare annual fixed cost and capital budgets.
  • Manage all expenditure in terms of individual budgets.
  • Approve purchases and payments within the parameters allowed.

Investigations:

  • Perform individual investigations and or assist investigation teams and or assist government institutions in the investigation of undesired events including personnel injuries, fatalities, property damage, theft, fraud/corruption, fire, toxic chemical release/spillage and organised crime syndicates.
    Maintenance of Assets
  • Initiate all maintenance requests for buildings, motor vehicles and other movable assets.
  • Advise HODs/Line Managers on equipment requiring continuous maintenance.

Technical Content Development

  • Seek and develop new methods, procedures or standards for implementation/integration to improve the company’s compliance to Safety and Health legislation, ISO/OHSAS/Occupational Health and Hygiene programs.
  • Provide guidance in management action required to maintain the BBS process (Behaviour Based Safety).
    Consultations
  • Provide technical advice to Head of Departments and Line Managers.

Risk Management

  • Ensure that companies risk exposure assessments are regularly reviewed and appropriate action plans are implemented to eliminate/reduce/mitigate risks.
  • Co-ordinate the company’s annual underwriter’s survey.
  • Establish and implement the company’s emergency preparation and response plans and manage the emergency response team.

Risk Management Modules

  • Ensure integrity of fire prevention and protection systems and allocate necessary maintenance/capital resources to enhance protection.
  • Specialise in fields such as occupational safety, ergonomics, fire defence and organisation, security, occupational hygiene, weighbridge operation, etc. to act as companywide advisor.
    Legal Compliance
  • Ensure the company maintains compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Liaise with company attorneys to ensure status of legal compliance issues.
  • Liaise with external legal advisors to ensure compliance programmes are effective.
  • Negotiate with the government bodies (Dept of Labour).

Health and Safety

  • Plan and implement a Health and Safety strategy.
  • Ensure risk assessments are undertaken and risks are continuously reviewed.
  • Develop the incorporation of Health and Safety into the SHEQ management system.
  • Investigate serious incidents.
  • Manage the company’s IOD claim administration programme.
  • Co-ordinate employee’s medical surveillance programme.
  • Implement proactive measures to curb injuries and other safety incidents companywide.
  • Co-ordinate SHEQ induction programme for all employees and contractors.
  • Co-ordinate periodic legal compliance audits for health and safety.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • BTech/National Diploma in Safety/Environmental Health.
  • Intensive Fire & Safety (IFE Diploma).
  • Security Officers MOD II SASA Approved.
  • Minimum of five years in supervisory capacity in relevant fields.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Computer literate (SAP R3 competency could be advantageous).
  • Interpretation of law/rules/procedures.
  • Negotiating skills, good communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be credible – internal and external interaction with I & AP’s.
  • Technically competent in risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Technically competent auditor.
  • Sound knowledge of SHEQ legislation.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Specialist safety, health and risk management training.
